‘24′ Life Thoughts

January 16th, 2007 No comments

I really like 24. I have seen every episode of every season! The season premier was this last weekend. Yes, I will be watching every week. I can handle the wait as I am a pretty patient man… maybe. :)

Jack Bauer said something that hit me, “The only reason I fought so hard to stay alive in China (tortured as a prisoner) was so I wouldn’t die for nothing. Today, I can die for something.”

That really spoke to me. I want to live every day of my life to accomplish something. I want it to be that when I die, I can say, “I died for something.” Even more importantly, “I lived for something.”

When I get tired; when I get overwhelmed; when things don’t go my way; when life doesn’t seem fair; when I don’t get what I believe I deserve; when my schedule is ‘overloaded’; when work is too ‘busy’; when I don’t have ‘enough’ money; no matter what the circumstance… I know that I am pushing forward with a purpose in mind. I am enduring with a bigger goal in mind. I am a part of a bigger plan. There is a bigger purpose for my life.

I WILL live. And I WILL die for something worth dying for!

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:12-14

Oswald Chambers – Devo

Oswald Chambers
My Utmost For His Highest

“To become one with Jesus Christ, a person must be willing not only to give up sin, but also surrender his whole way of looking at things.

Being born again by the Spirit of God means that we must first be willing to let go before we can grasp something else.

Are we willing to surrender our grasp on all that we possess, our desires, and everything else in our lives? Are we ready to be identified with the death of Jesus Christ?”

This Means War

December 19th, 2006 No comments

I grew up listening to Petra. Whenever I need a shot of reality and to remember what life is all about, I enjoy going back and listening to those albums. God has come through lately with the “This Means War” (1987) album. I’ll share some clips of the lyrics with you.

Get on your knees and fight like a man
You’ll pull down strongholds if you just believe you can
Your enemy will tuck his tail and flee
Get on your knees and fight like a man

Under the gun, you’ve got no place to hide out
Backed in the corner on your own
This is one storm you are destined to ride out
One way to leave the danger zone

You’ve got the backbone to fight this tide
You’ve got the will to survive
You’ve got the weapon, it’s at your side
You’ve got to learn to confide

I am available
I don’t have much to offer you, I don’t have much to give
There’s so much I may never be as long as I may live
I may never be all I want to be although I’ll always try
But if you choose me, to use me, there’s just one reason why

I am available, I am available
I will go when you say go
I am available, I am available
I will stop when you say no
My whole life was incomplete till I laid it at Your feet
So use me as You will
I am available

You are my Rock
You are my rock, my fortress, my shield
You are my rock, let Your strength be revealed
My rock, my comfort, my peace
My salvation, my refuge, my God
You are my Rock

Don’t let your heart be hardened – don’t let your love grow cold
May it always stay so childlike – may it never grow too old
Don’t let your heart be hardened – may you always know the cure
Keep it broken before Jesus, keep it thankful, meek, and pure

Let His love rain down upon you
Breaking up your fallow ground
Let it lossen all the binding
Till only tenderness is found

Ephesians 6:10-18
This means war!
