Hurricane Katrina

February 13th, 2006 No comments

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Fraud and abuse in the emergency response to Hurricane Katrina cost taxpayers millions of dollars, government investigators told a Senate panel on Monday ahead of a scathing congressional report that faults all levels of government for their handling of the disaster. – Click here to read more (Yahoo News)

Well, I don’t think that fraud in this whole thing is a big surprise to anyone. Anytime money is being handed out, it doesn’t matter what gender, race, economic class, etc, there WILL be fraud.

I agree that we should help people and give aid. That is the right thing todo; however, we should make sure that we give assistance in a way that enables people to make their situation better. Unfortunately, there are alot of people that received money and blew it on discretionary spending. Now when the government stops paying for housing, they will not be able to afford basic necessities because their money is gone and they don’t have jobs.

Unfortunately, I don’t think there is an easy solution to this. There is so much politics (from both camps) and decades of history that we’d have to revisit. Ultimately, aid should be given with requirements and checks/balances to ensure that those receiving it truly become better off.

I still do not like myspace. I can’t believe how many errors I get on that site. And it is EXTREMELY slow.

Teen falls out of a bus

February 9th, 2006 No comments

You gotta read this article. I don’t understand how you can fall out of a charter bus while in the restroom. What do they have, a floor to ceiling window? And was it open?

ALBANY, N.Y. – A New York City teenager fell out the window of a moving bus while using the restroom Tuesday and landed on the New York State Thruway.

I hate myspace.com

February 7th, 2006 4 comments

I’ve used quite a few blogger/social networking tools and myspace.com has to be the worst.

User friendliness: Ridiculous. There are so many buttons, options, settings, friends, about me, blog, advertisements, etc… trying to get your attention. It’s like A.D.D. all over again. They could spend a day or two redesigning the interface and get a lot out of it.

Functionality: Works ok once you find out where everything is.

Extendability: Haven’t even tried, I have wordpress as my main site.

Reliability: Not good. I’ve had the site throw errors and not let me into things for no good reason. I think they need more servers and some better coding.

I think xanga is really good for social networking; however, they’ve lost the lead with the lack of innovation.

Well, those are my ramblings.
