I hate myspace.com
I’ve used quite a few blogger/social networking tools and myspace.com has to be the worst.
User friendliness: Ridiculous. There are so many buttons, options, settings, friends, about me, blog, advertisements, etc… trying to get your attention. It’s like A.D.D. all over again. They could spend a day or two redesigning the interface and get a lot out of it.
Functionality: Works ok once you find out where everything is.
Extendability: Haven’t even tried, I have wordpress as my main site.
Reliability: Not good. I’ve had the site throw errors and not let me into things for no good reason. I think they need more servers and some better coding.
I think xanga is really good for social networking; however, they’ve lost the lead with the lack of innovation.
Well, those are my ramblings.

Indeed. I’m continually surprised by how popular Myspace is (it’s the #1 social networking site. 50 million members!), especially since I know if I put the time and effort in, I could put together something with all that functionality, but far easier to use. And then I could sell it for $580M. Heh heh.
I’ve thought of emailing Tom suggesting a contest actually, to redesign Myspace. I’ve tried on one occasion, though I guess you can set an away message for emails, which makes no sense to me. Not a vacation message, an away message, like “I’ll be right back”. Um, it’s email. You don’t need to be right there. I’ll try again here shortly.
The one thing that is nice about Myspace is that they allow you to use CSS and HTML in some pretty powerful ways, as you discovered with my Myspace page. I just created the page I wanted and used CSS to position it on top of the default Myspace layout.

I found a site created by frustrated ex myspacers! It’s called http://www.communityx.net
The site is very nice and easy to use. They added some great features that myspace should have added along time ago. They give you a unlimited pic gallery. Also they give you a free website, and you can sell stuff in your own personal auctions or classifieds. They included a profile generator too. They told me they are going to integrate it into the profile set up so you don’t have to even know any code what so ever!
They owners are real people too! They’ll answer your questions and they even helped me create my profile!
They also don’t let just anyone on their site. They have an approval process to keep spammers and fakes off the site. It’s also 18 and older! Who wants a 15 year old “friend” if they are over 21? Myspace is creepy in that aspect and that’s why I left actually. Some girl I was talking to ended up being 14 and telling me she’s 18.
That kind of scared me because I saw on nightline all these guys getting arrested for meeting up with some girl that was under age. I can see them setting up Myspace stings soon! I don’t need that shit. That’s why I’m over at Comx.
