riding the storm

June 6th, 2005 No comments

This past weekend I was outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma, with my friend Rusty and his family. It was a great weekend hanging out with Rusty and relaxing in the open outdoors.

One of the exciting moments of the weekend was the fact that we stayed in tents both Friday and Saturday night. Rusty’s wife was in a tent with their daughter while Rusty and I shared a tent. On Saturday night, there was a huge storm that came through Oklahoma bringing 50-70 mile an hour wind gust at times.

The night unfolded by going to bed and having our tent almost colapse on us. We went inside to Rusty’s parent’s camper and watched the news. It looked like the storm was over, so we went back to sleep in the tent. Then at approximately 1:30am, stronger winds came and was blowing our tent down. The wind actually cracked one of the poles on the tent. It was pretty hilarious being outside with strong winds. I’m sure some of those gusts were over 50mph.

We ended up sleeping in a building that was used as the clubhouse only to be woken up at the crack of dawn by people coming in and talking really loud. We then went and found various places to finish our rest. Rusty slept in the tent his wife had slept in and I slept in the jacked tent that we were sleeping in.

So anyhow… that is the short version of the story. There are pictures below of the before and after shots of the tent. Fun, Fun.
