What is a yacht party
The “Yacht Party” started when Mike & Gabe wanted to have a way to get people together to hang out and have some fun in Dallas. So there started the annual “Yacht Parties”! In the past, there were approximately three or four Yacht parties per year. Now that life has gotten busier for everyone, they have dwindled to two, usually at Christmas and Spring.

So who gets invited?
The initial invitations go out to all of Mike & Gabe’s friends. A lot of these friends are intern alumni who still reside in the Dallas/Houston/East Texas area; nonetheless, we have been graced with the presence of alumni from afar! We do occasionally invite friends who are not alumni as this makes for a great mix of fun & atmosphere! Invitees are allowed to bring a guest or two as long as an RSVP has been sent to the hosts confirming the additional guests.

As a tradition, we have limited the guest list to not include Undergraduate Interns at the Honor Academy. This is simply because we’ve had to limit the amount of potential guests attending the Yacht Parties.

It is an honor to be invited to a Yacht Party so we ask that guests help in a few ways…

  • First of all, there will be no consumption of alcohol at Yacht Parties. We believe & have proven that we can have fun without alcohol.

  • Second, we ask that there be no secular music brought to the Yacht Parties. This is to ensure that everyone attending will be in a comfortable atmosphere. If there is ever a selection of secular music playing, it has been approved by the hosts. If you are offended by the selection, it is your job to notify the hosts immediately.
  • Third, from time to time we may ask that you pitch in financially by either providing a small donation or by bringing a snack/drink with you. We want to be a blessing to everyone attending, so if there is a financial issue, please make us aware in your RSVP. We do not want anyone not attending because of a lack of finances.

And last but not least, HAVE FUN! That’s what these Yacht Parties are for!”

What happens at a Yacht Party?
Well to put it simply… lots of fun! The party usually starts around 3 or 4pm on a Saturday. Dinner is served, which has included homemade lasagna, grilled chicken, steaks, salad, corn, and whatever else we’ve eaten over the past few Yacht Parties. Gabe shows his stuff by whipping out cookies using the Ciesiensky family cookie recipe… and boy are they GOOD! The traditional activity of Yacht Parties is the game of Nerts. This is an incredible card game that spawns lots of fun and excitement. We once had a game of over 8 teams totaling 16 people. The party usually ends whenever everyone goes home. Most people ditch around 11pm or 12pm, but the hard core Yacht partiers stay overnight and leave Sunday sometime. Click here for official Nertz rules and gameplay.

What is the future of Yacht Parties?
The eventual goal is to have an actual party on a Yacht. We have big goals and would plan this event months in advance to allow the maximum amount of people to participate. Be saving your money and looking forward to this event of the decade!
